Night time teeth grinding, bruxism, fist clenching.

A collection of resources, links and a community for people seeking help with various sleep problems.

Thoughts, off the cuff – I think there is room for plenty of research on this.
Lived experience has much more weight in academic circles than before, hence building a community is likely to help.

Like all mental health issues people are slowly starting to be more open than they used to be. Apparently the covid pandemic led to a large rise in bruxism. Although my jaw has been OK for years (when I wear my solid mouth guard), in the last few months I have been clenching my fists while I am sleeping, which wakes me up in the night, and has caused “trigger finger”.
Fist-clenching is likely to have a similar underlying cause as my bruxism.

Therapy ideas for bruxism are interesting – EMDR, Craniosacral, Compassionate Inquiry,

Please share if you have found other resources, thanks.

  1. Please recommend any medical specialists or clinics. Thanks!

Everyone in the UK may benefit from knowing where to refer to within the NHS.

  2. I work as an Internal family systems (IFS) therapist and a Sensorimotor psychotherapist. We work with the somatic aspects in IFS and SP so the part of you that is engaging in teeth grinding can get the help it needs to let go of the burdens it carries. This usually results in no more teeth grinding because the part of you doing that role/job doesn’t have to do it anymore. It takes time of course but it all depends on how much or how little traumatic energy is stuck in that area of your body. I have 5 years experience working with complex trauma and I offer sessions online. You’re welcome to send me a dm in case you’d like to try one 60 minute session for free.

  3. subliminal sessions on YouTube have helped me most! x x
